Gentoo Linux there is a java-config to configure the version of Java runtime that you want to use by default.
With Ubuntu you should use the command update-alternatives
For different because I need to use the latest Java version from SUN and in packages found in ability do not necessarily correspond to the latest version.
So after you install the Sun JDK into / opt and made a symbolic link with the current version (ln-s jdk1.6.0_19 jdk) I will say that this is the version I want to use with these two commands:
